What Is a 10ft Shipping Container Rental?

A 10ft shipping container rental is a steel storage unit roughly 10 feet long, 8 feet wide and 8 feet 6 inches tall, delivered to your site and rented by the month. It’s the most compact secure storage ATS offers: about 72 square feet of floor space, wind- and watertight, with cam-locking steel doors at ground level.

Ten-foot units are built by cutting down a 20ft container and rebuilding the end wall, which is why the fleet is smaller and why availability moves fast in peak season. Reserve early if you need one for spring or summer.

Rental Terms and Delivery

Rent by the month, short-term or long-term. Most of our rental accounts start with a single unit for one project and keep it, or add to it, once they see how it works on site.

For delivery, you’ll want reasonably level, firm ground and a clear approach for the truck. A tilt-and-load delivery needs roughly 60 feet of straight clearance for a 10ft unit and about 14 feet of overhead clearance. Gravel, compacted dirt and asphalt all work. Our dispatcher will walk your site details with you when you book.

Three things set the rate: how long you’re renting, how far your site is from the nearest ATS depot, and whether you need modifications like a roll-up door or shelving. What fits in a 10ft shipping container?
About 72 square feet of floor space and 560 cubic feet of volume, roughly four standard pallets on the floor, or a full trades tool crib with room to walk in. Businesses typically use them for tools, parts, seasonal stock, records and equipment that needs to stay locked and dry.
Is there really a 10ft shipping container?
Yes. Ten-foot units aren’t a standard ISO manufacturing size, so they’re produced by cutting down a 20ft container and rebuilding the end wall with a new door frame. That’s why they cost more per square foot than a 20ft and why the fleet is smaller. For tight sites, it’s the only size that fits.
Do I need a concrete slab for a 10ft container?
No. A 10ft container sits fine on gravel, compacted dirt or asphalt. What matters is that the ground is reasonably level and drains. You don’t want the unit sitting in standing water or twisting on soft ground. Some customers set patio slabs or timbers under the four corners to keep the floor off wet ground. Our driver will place it where it sits best.
How long can I rent a 10ft container for?
As long as you need. We do short-term rentals for a single project and long-term accounts that run for years. Many of our rental customers hold units indefinitely and add more as they grow.
How fast can you deliver a 10ft rental container?
